Hydrant Flow Test Inspection
Hydrant flow test inspections measure the capacity of the system and the pressure available at the hydrant. Flow testing is done periodically to provide data on the distribution system and fire flow capabilities of a fire hydrant or groups of hydrants. Any time major changes are made to the distribution system pipes, the hydrants should be retested to determine if the changes affect flow patterns in the system.
The flow measurement of one or more open hydrants tests the effect of open, nearby hydrants on flow rates. Select a hydrant as the flowing hydrant for the flow test data. Select another hydrant for the residual pressure readings (or a hose bibb or faucet at which the readings will be taken, making sure that there is no use of water in the building during the test).
